Case study · Custom Shopify build
They wanted a store that sells like TikTok. Watch, tap, buy.
A functional-supplements brand wanted the scroll-stopping feel of social. I built that into a custom theme, so the store owns its best features instead of renting them from apps.

The brief
JourneySupp is a functional drinks brand. Protein coffee, mushroom coffee with chaga, lion's mane and cordyceps, collagen blends, creatine. A lot of the customers are women who'd rather drink their collagen than swallow another pill.
They buy the way they scroll, so the brand wanted a storefront that behaves like a feed. Watch a short video, tap, buy, without ever breaking the flow.
The trap
The usual way to get that on Shopify is to stack third-party apps on top of a theme. It works, but it comes at a price. The apps that do shoppable video run over $1,000 a year, some take a cut of every order, and they slow the store down with scripts loading from someone else's servers.
Worse, the core of how the store sells ends up owned by an app instead of the brand. That isn't owning a store. It's renting one.
Rent vs. own
Renting it · the app way
- ✕$1,000+ a year in app fees
- ✕A cut of every order
- ✕Extra scripts from someone else's servers
- ✕Your best feature on someone else's roadmap
Owning it · custom theme
- ✓No app fees
- ✓No commission on sales
- ✓Full control of every pixel
- ✓All three Core Web Vitals in the green
What I built
So I skipped the apps and built the experience natively into a custom theme. Every piece was shaped around one thing, conversion.
Custom theme
Home, collection, product, and checkout, all built from scratch.
Shoppable video
The watch-tap-buy experience, native to the store, no app required.
Custom cart
A drawer built around how people actually buy.
A/B landing pages
So the store keeps getting better at converting.
The result
It came out fast, clean, and easy to run, and it doesn't lean on anyone. No subscriptions, no cut of sales, no waiting on someone else's roadmap.
Owning the code turned a monthly cost and a dependency into an advantage. The store sells like social, loads fast, and the money that used to leak into apps stays in the business. When the tool doesn't exist the way it should, I build it.
